Boundaries are the guidelines we set up which determine how we are treated in relationships. Boundaries clearly define what we will and won’t put up with from others. They can be spoken or unspoken. They can be physical or emotional. Boundaries teach people how to treat us. Healthy boundaries can help us value ourselves and live more authentically and in-line with our own wants, needs, values, morals and belief systems. Although boundaries are extremely important for our well-being and our relationships, they’re often hard to establish and maintain for various reasons. However, being able to accomplish this can lead to a more fulfilling and rewarding life.
