When depression overtakes us it’s similar to that of a drug. If you’ve ever seen someone who is drunk or high than you know it makes how do and say things you wouldn’t normally do and say.... this is how depression works. When you wake up in the morning your brain tells you, “what do you need to wake up for? You don’t need to do anything today. Nobody cares anyway. Just go back to bed.” Then another day goes by that you’ve done nothing. Then when you go to sleep that that you feel guilt, embarrassed, ashamed. Then you wake up the next day and do it all over again. This is the cycle of depression. Just like a drug, depression wants to keep you sick because it wants to stay around. It knows that if you get better it has to leave. So the depression puts thoughts in your head that you believe are yours. But you’ve got to realize that just because those thoughts are in your head doesn’t mean they’re yours. Who is it that wants desperately to get their life back, to be productive again, to laugh again? If that you or the depression? I’m guessing it’s you- speaking from your heart and soul. Then who is also telling you that you don’t care about any of those things and what you really want is to be alone and not do anything? You can’t have it both ways. So ask yourself... ask your heart and soul who is that talking? Is it you or the depression?
At some point you’ve got to get off that hamster wheel of depression because you’re not going to go anywhere. If you’re waiting for a day to wake up and all of a sudden feel motivated then you’re going to wait for a very long time and end up wasting most of your life. Today, say I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired! Do something different today! The thing about depression is that it doesn’t even take much to loosen its’ grip on you. Just by accomplishing one small, simple task you can lay your head down on your pillow tonight and feel proud of yourself that you did something different today... that you fought against those depressive thoughts, and took a step towards happiness. Most people don’t like getting ready for the gym but we push ourselves through those feelings for the reward of how we’re going to feel after the gym. This is the same concept. In the morning when you wake up and hear those loud, pesky thoughts urging you back to bed, I want you to think about how you want to feel when you go to sleep tonight. Only you can silence those thoughts of depression and do something different today!
